Rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) maintains official rankings to evaluate the performance of international cricket teams and players across different formats—Test, One Day Internationals (ODI), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20I).

ICC Team Rankings are calculated to determine the relative strength of each national team in each format which are based on Match results (win, loss, draw/tie), Strength of the opponent.  Home/away conditions are not considered directly, but beating a strong team earns more rating points. Rankings are updated after every series and sometimes after each match. Each team receives Points which are total numerical value of results and Rating are calculated on points divided by matches played. The No. 1 ranked team is considered the strongest in that format.

ICC Player Rankings cover batting, bowling, and all-rounder categories in each format. Player rankings are determined by performance in recent matches, strength of the opposition and consistency over time. Separate lists exist for Batters, Bowlers and All-rounders. Rankings are dynamic. Players gain or lose rating points after every match. Each player receives a rating score, where:

  • 900+ is considered exceptional,

  • 800+ is world-class,

  • 700+ is very good.
