Ravichandran Ashwin, who has recently retired from all format of International cricket, became the 2nd most wicket taker in Test Cricket for India after Anil Kumble. Ashwin will now only play in various cricket league like IPL where this year we will see him playing in Chennai Super Kings of Indian Premier League.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who has taken total 765 wickets in international cricket. In these he has taken 537 wickets in Test Cricket with an average of 24, 156 wickets in One Day with an average of 33.2 and 72 wickets in T20 with an average of 23.2. In addition to he is also playing IPL, where he had taken 180 wickets with an average of 29.8.
Being a bowling allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin has a good stat in batting also. He has scored total 4,394 runs in International Cricket. In these 3,503 runs came from Test Cricket where he has smashed 6 Century and 14 Half-Century with an average of 25.8 with the highest score of 124 against West Indies in year 2013.
Whereas Anil Kumble, who has taken total 956 wickets in international cricket. In these he has taken 619 wickets in Test Cricket with an average of 29.6 and 337 wickets in One Day with an average of 30.9. He has not featured in any game of T20 international but played T20 in IPL where he has taken 45 wickets with an average of 23.5.
Being a bowling allrounder Anil Kumble has a good stat in batting also. He has scored total 3,434 runs in International Cricket. In these 2,506 runs came from Test Cricket where he has smashed only 1 Century and 5 Half-Century with an average of 17.8 with the highest score of 110* against England in year 2007.
Ravichandran Ashwin has played only 106 Test, 116 One Day, 65 T20. He has mostly played against modern day star batsman like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, David Warner and many more. But his average is better than Anil Kumble in batting and bowling of Test Cricket.
Whereas Anil Kumble has played 132 Test, 271 One Day. He has mostly played against legend batsman like Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Mark Waugh, Stephen Fleming and many more. But his average is better than Ravichandran Ashwin in bowling of One Day International.
It is very tough to compare both. Because both have played in different generation. During Anil Kumble era, most of the batsman had played with defensive approach where taking wicket is more difficult but chance of conceding run is lesser. But during Ravichandran Ashwin era, most of the batsman had played with aggressive approach where taking wicket is not more difficult but chance of conceding run is more.
